Cellar Door Skeptics 177: Has Trump been a good President?

Click the Image to Listen to the Show!

Tonight the episode looks into a debate that was had between two passionate individuals. One of those individuals is a trump supporter and believes that Trump has been a great president. The other debater does not feel that trump is a good president and is hopeful of a change next election cycle.

The debate format is casual, with Christopher Tanner acting as the moderator. The concept of the debate is to allow for the two to discuss some major points about his presidency, policies and some overarching issues of the Republican Party.

The debate initially started when Dallas offered $300 to anyone willing to debate him on if Trump is a great president. They agreed to donate the money to charity once the debate is over.

————————

Dallas D is taking the side that Trump is a great president and has done a great job.

His bio: “I’m just a guy who likes debating ideas. I am a Nashville musician with a casual interest in politics. Mike and I grew up in the same town and went to elementary school and middle school together.”

Miike S is taking the opposition and doesn’t think Trump has been good as a president.

His position: “I hold the belief that Donald Trump as our president is bad for both America and the world. I believe Donald Trump’s rhetoric of ‘fake news’ and ‘alternative facts’ has cultivated a following that is willing to dismiss facts and scientific research as left wing media and liberal conspiracies. I think it is dangerous to have American voters groomed to distrust any media that challenges their political beliefs. I find his inept tweets and speeches condoning violence embarrassing and dangerous. He has failed domestically, where he demonstrates poor leadership and continues to drive a divide within our nation. He has failed abroad, where he embarrasses our nation, disrespects allies whilst celebrating violent regimes, and abandons the international community’s drive to protect our environment.”

His bio: “I grew up in Evans, GA where I met Dallas in elementary school. I’ve since been friends with him mostly through social media where we’ve discussed different perspectives. I left Georgia in 2005 and moved to California, where I graduated college. I currently work and live in Kalamazoo, Michigan in the pharmaceutical industry as a Group Leader/Scientist in Laboratory Automation and Programming. I don’t discuss politics often since Trump’s election. However, I hold a general interest in different world perspectives and how politics shape societies. This interest has guided my travels to places like the Crimean peninsula, the Middle East, and North Korea. I don’t believe I hold any merit that especially qualifies me to understand Trump’s presidency better than anyone else, and I hope to be viewed as an average voting American sharing my perspective.”

Cellar Door Skeptics 111: Jeff Sessions Love of Marijuana / American Immigration History

Cellar Door Skeptics was able to find Jeff Sessions, hiding in the closet this week, smoking a big bag of “how to screw over states rights” this week. They tackle how his memo will affect the legalized marijuana industry along with his uncompromising desire to see all marijuana removed from society so he can be the King of Pot and secretly have enough pot to smoke the rest of his life. They analyze if it is too late for Jeff and his elk along with whether even the Senate has had enough to push a legalization movement through the Federal Government. Later the duo tackles Cory Booker’s epic rant on Trump’s “Shithole Nation” non-comment. Lastly they close the show out reviewing NPR’s interview on immigration, the original standards to get into America, and how America tried to doom 907 refugees trying to escape Nazi Germany to death by regretting them from coming into America. The similarities to how Americans have treated Refugees and Immigrants over the last 200 decades is astounding and the duo hope to flesh out a better way to receive those who want to shelter within America.

Cellar Door Skeptics 110: Kicking Off 2018

In Cellar Door Skeptic’s first show of the New Year, after a two week hiatus, the duo is back to talk about some weird and wild things as Johnny Carson used to say. They talk through “New Years Resolutions”, Trumps Tweets and Tantrums, along with which button on which desk is the biggest. The show gets a little more serious as they review an article about how a neuroscientist discovered that he was a psychopath. The show ends with a look at whether the Republican economic plan has generated more work for the US and if Trump has actually grown jobs or are his numbers are nothing more than fake news.

Cellar Door Skeptics 108: Bitcoin – Catching a Falling Knife

This week’s episode of Cellar Door Skeptics, Tanner interviews Phil Ferguson from Polaris Financial Planning to talk about Bitcoin, Income Tax on the rich, and his book recommendations for those who want to learn more and become better financial planners. Phil owns his own successful financial planning business and we start the episode out by talking about whether bitcoin is a good investment or not. As an expert in financial planning, we wanted to pick his brain about the phenomenon of Bitcoin and if we should jump on board or hold our distance. The show also focuses on talking about some of the items that Hanna and Tanner did not cover in episode 107 with a slant on how it affects income tax from a financial planning perspective. The show ends with some solid advice for those just getting into financial planning or those whom want to take a deeper dive.

Cellar Door Skeptics 100: Our 2 Year Anniversary

Cellar Door Skeptics is turning 2 years old this week, and we wanted to celebrate it with everyone. As this year concludes, we are grateful for all the support that you have given us over the past two years. This show will focus on the new direction that we are taking along with a new format that will be rolled out in the next couple of weeks. Also we wanted to reflect on the how we as individuals have changed. We examine what views of ours have changed along with if there were things we got wrong. In closing we will be talking about the charity of choice that we will be donating to this year in hopes to make an impact within our own local community.

Join us this week as we celebrate, reflect, and prepare for the ongoing revolution!
