Cellar Door Skeptics 171: Examining Bernie Sanders VS Andrew Yang

CLICK ON THE IMAGE TO LISTEN TO THE SHOW!

The show takes a dive back into politics this week as we look at the difference between Andrew Yang’s policy proposals and Bernie Sanders Proposals. With the 2020 election geering up, we felt it would be a benefit to look into if there was differences between two candidates. We our joined b y our podcast friend Boyce from Mindful Skeptics right here in West Michigan as we meet up to share our opinions on the subject.

This episode broke on of our oaths to not discuss candidates till closer to the election, but we felt that there was enough buzz between the two candidates that it was worth examining. We still will not side with any one specific candidate, but we will look at these two and determine if there is any similarities between them and if it is worth even looking at Mr Yang.

Cellar Door Skeptics 166: Black History Month & More with The Triple C’s

This show’s guest for the night is Christopher Banks, whom is currently running for the State House in Michigan in 2020. He joins us tonight to discuss Black History Month, share his stories, and help give credit to the minorities who have helped shape this country. Without Minorities, we would not be the nation we are today. We discuss the origins of Black History Month, experiences with helping others learn about black culture and contributions, all while enjoying each other’s company. The show is almost like the trifecta of Christopher’s as there are three on this episode. The team even gets Mr. Banks to throw out a Quick Save as they look at what they learned for the week.

Cellar Door Skeptics 161: Hugs or High Fives with Sara Cunningham of Free Mom Hugs

Cellar Door Skeptics is bringing you not one, but two charities of the week. Their segment talking about local charities is extended this week as they interview Sara Cunningham of Free Mom Hugs, an organization dedicated to help other parents realize the having children whom are LGBTQ is wonderful and normal. Sara tells her story about how she left conservative christian beliefs and came to the understanding that her beliefs should never dictate who she loves. She talks about her organization Free Mom Hugs, how it started, and the desire to help make an impact on society to shed the ridiculous idea that LGBTQ people are not deserving of love.

Check out our full unedited interview on Patreon for a longer version of our discussion.

After talking about the different charities, the duo tackle the highly controversial video of the MAGA hat wearing youth, their confrontation with a Native American Elder, and why even with the longer video we need to stop and examine the evidence before letting these children off the hook. Chris Squared take a deep dive into an emotional subject and look at some of the reasons they feel the situation should be given a second look without just accepting what the media said. This segment is full of passion, as both of the Chris’ wade through how the situation could have been handled better by the children, and how even if they were screaming, how their MAGA hats represent the hate and racism embodied within our society.

The show ends as always with Hanna’s and Tanner’s Infamous Quick Saves of the week.

Cellar Door Skeptics 154: A Trail of Tear Gas

Cellar Door Skeptics starts the show off talking about their Thanksgiving experiences and if the politics divided their dinner tables this year. They also talked about their charity of the week BeNice. Mental health is the main focus for this program as it works to educate schools on bullying and techniques to help schools better cope with the issues that are affecting students now a days. Their science segment this week looks at Plants and Ants, which came first and how evolution played a role between species that are not able to breed. The political segment this week talks about Trump’s desire to take control of the military troops to “protect” the border without running afoul of Congress. He has authorized “Force” for the troops to deter individuals seeking asylum. The duo looks at what legal asylum is and if Trump is violating the law. They also examine the border spectrum to determine what the long game that Trump is trying to play. The show ends as usual with the Quick Saves of the week.

Cellar Door Skeptics 147: Early Prevention with the Blue Wave Vaccine, Featuring Heidi Zuniga

Cellar Door Skeptics has started the push to help give a voice to the local candidates running for office in Michigan. They start their series talking with the candidates that will make a difference if elected into office this year.

The series kicks off by talking with Democrat, Mother, and Teacher Heidi Zuniga. We talk a look at the 88th district and the changes that Heidi could bring to help decrease the amount of Red we all see in our state. She is facing off against Luke Meerman, an ultra conservative Republican who has a hard time working for women’s rights while using his status, money, and friends to help get him a seat on the ticket this November.

We talk with Heidi about the beginning of her campaign, what she is doing to better her community, and why we should work toward voting in grassroots campaigns that care about the constituents without succumbing to large corporate interests.

Check out a down to earth women who deserves your vote this November.

Cellar Door Skeptics 127: Center For Inquiry and Civics Day

Today’s episode is special and one that Tanner felt was needed after a long day of talking to legislators. This episode is done in solo as Hanna has taken off a few weeks to be with his wife and newborn daughter.

This episode will focus on the recent Civic’s Day hosted by CFI Michigan at the Michigan State capitol building. The episode will talk about his experiences, the desire to start working toward changing people’s minds when it comes to interacting with local politics, and staying involved with up to date information about the bills going around in Michigan.

The goals the Chris Squared Duo have set for themselves and their desire to promote local politics first, lead them to start researching and attending different events in an effort to continue their pursuit of a better government.

Sit back, relax, grab a drink (especially unsweetened ice tea), and listen in as Tanner talks about learning to become more involved politically.

#4: Through The Attic Window – Chocolate Cake Trumping Your Palette

Over the last week, Tanner just found out that #45 happened to be talking to a reporter from Fox News Business and happened to express his love for Chocolate Cake. In all fairness who does not like Chocolate Cake, but in this instance, #45 happened to be telling the reporter how he had authorized the Syrian attack. The best part is that Tanner had to have a mini opinionated rant … er.. discussion with Hanna over why the cake has become so infamous in the media. Listen in on their fourth installment of the opinion portion of the show as they talk about #45’s love of bombing … er …. dick measuring … er … safety of the children.

Letter from the Editor: I’m Just Tired

As the title says, I’m just tired, exhausted, worn down, exasperated… Does anyone else feel it?

Wait, let me elaborate before you sigh and cast your weary gaze to the back button, expecting this to be nothing but a series of complaints from a millennial who actually has to work for his money. You would be quite wrong, of course, as I rarely give people exactly what they expect.

As an activist, blogger, podcast host, engineer, homeowner, small business owner, husband, responsible pet owner, and soon to be father of a tiny human female I accept the weariness this will dispel. I understand that life can be filled with siestas and 40 hour cog in the machine workweeks if one can willingly submit. I understand all of these things but that is not the reason for my fatigue, it is the repetition.

obama-nazi-communist-muslim

Repetition in argumentation, repetition in political idiocy, repetition in online bigotry, repetition in financial irresponsibility, repetition of traditional oppression, and the list goes on and on…

I am so tired of the same arguments from the right wing arch conservatives: gay marriage will destroy all moral structure ending in malicious bestiality, deregulation of the economy will create more jobs not slave wages and serfdom, tax breaks-school funding / social programming cuts will force the poor to actually work, and Obama is a Muslim Nazi.

I am so tired of reading stories of political leaders announcing their intentions to take big money out of politics when we can see the list of their campaign contributors are the top wall street mega corporations. I am tired of politicians charged with protecting the American people putting “Freedom”, “Patriot”, or “Religious Freedom” at the beginning of some of the most subversive legislation to ever attack our basic human rights. And, I am tired of a two party system that uses unethical financial bullying to prevent decent discourse and the diversity of the people from being represented in our “Democratic Republic” election cycles.
